May was a relatively calm month in terms of policymaking, though the appointment of Olha Krevska as the new Deputy Minister for Digital Transformation in charge of the Chapter X negotiations could lead to a modification of Ukraine’s position in the EU accession process. Discussions of the legislative package on anti-SLAPPs, which will culminate in legislative proposals in the near future, mark an important step toward protecting media freedom on the legal level.
The most notable events happening in this period were:
- the changes in the Ministry for Digital Transformation leadership;
- the failure to adopt the draft law decriminalizing the dissemination of pornography;
- the finalization of another stage of Suspilne’s supervisory board selection process.
This series of digests, produced with the support of International Media Support (IMS), provides an overview of the proposed and adopted legislation in the spheres of freedom of expression, media regulation, privacy and data protection, Internet regulation in general, and the activities of the National Broadcasting Council in the area of Media Law implementation.
As usual, the digest contains references to documents discussed in previous issues and provides follow-up on the acts and events described therein.
