What’s up with Ukraine’s media regulation in January 2024?

DSLU continues providing updates on Ukraine’s media and digital rights regulation through its digest, now covering the first month of 2024. This series of digests provides an overview of the proposed and adopted legislation in the spheres of freedom of expression, media regulation, privacy and data protection, Internet regulation in general, and the activities of the National Broadcasting Council in the area of Media Law implementation.

The beginning of 2024 was a rather passive period in lawmaking and law enforcement in the media field, with the main discussion surrounding the draft laws on mobilisation. Thus, the highlights of this volume are:

  • the recommendations for the responsible use of AI in the media, endorsed by the Ministry for Digital Transformation;
  • the entry into force of the 90% quota of Ukrainian programming for broadcasters;
  • the progress in digitalisation of relations between the media regulator and the media.

As usual, the digest contains references to the documents discussed in the previous volumes of the digest and provides a follow-up to the acts and events described therein.
