In August, Ukrainian authorities were recovering politically from the July turmoil and the ensuing political overhaul. The Verkhovna Rada did little during its only plenary session and has not approved the Program of Activity presented by the newly formed Cabinet of Ministers, which could have given the government one year of immunity. The Program itself did not dwell on any significant priorities in the spheres of media regulation or digital rights.
The most notable events happening in this period were:
- the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers’ Program of Activity for 2026-2027 and its submission to the Parliament;
- the blocking of one of the most popular Russian cartoons on online platforms;
- the registration of the draft law on strengthening the transparency and publicity of the plea agreements;
- the commencement of another stage of Suspilne’s supervisory board selection process.
This series of digests, produced with the support of International Media Support (IMS), provides an overview of the proposed and adopted legislation in the spheres of freedom of expression, media regulation, privacy and data protection, Internet regulation in general, and the activities of the National Broadcasting Council in the area of Media Law implementation.
