What’s up with Ukraine’s media regulation in January 2025

2025 began with active internal parliamentary activities. While only one important piece of legislation was adopted, the parliamentary committees prepared several others for adoption in the upcoming months. The Verkhovna Rada has also extended martial law until 9 May 2025, maintaining existing restrictions, including aggression-related exceptions under the Law on Media.

In this month’s volume, you will be able to find out more on:

  • the adoption of the law improving journalist’s access to official events;
  • the first activities on code drafting by the co-regulatory body for audiovisual media;
  • the media regulator’s activities at the beginning of the year.

This series of digests provides an overview of the proposed and adopted legislation in the spheres of freedom of expression, media regulation, privacy and data protection, Internet regulation in general, and the activities of the National Broadcasting Council in the area of Media Law implementation.

As usual, the digest contains references to the documents discussed in the previous issues of the digest and provides a follow-up to the acts and events described therein.
